This winning sports drink recipe was developed by an accomplished Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with an impressive athletic career, and also the winner of several marathons: Jackie Dikos.
She knows, from her own personal experience, what works best to get a healthy boost of energy when you need it.
This is a favorite homemade sports drinks that hydrates and provides as a quick source of carbohydrates to fuel working muscles. It also contains the sodium and potassium needed to maintain electrolyte balance, and it tastes good, too!
Jackie’s Cherry-Lemon Sports Drink
Ingredients:
- 2.5 ounces tart cherry juice
- 1 ounce lemon juice (this equals about 1/2 of a extra large lemon)
- 2.5 tablespoons of honey
- ~27 ounces of cold water
- ~1/6 -1/4 tsp. salt (1/6 would be just under 1/4 tsp. of salt)
This will make 32 ounces (4 normal servings).
To make this winning sports drink, just combine the tart cherry juice, lemon juice and honey in a 32 ounce bottle and fill to the top with water. Add salt. Shake until the honey is dissolved, then chill and serve.
Each serving contains approximately:
50 calories
0 grams of fat
0 grams protein
14 grams of carbohydrate
0 grams of fiber
112-145 mg sodium
39 mg potassium
