When is MORE PROTEIN Not a Good Idea?

There are a number of reasons why adding protein supplements to your diet may not be advisable:

  1. many people consume too much protein already,
  2. supplements tend to be relatively expensive (compared to healthy protein-rich foods),
  3. supplements may contain sugars and other ingredients that you don’t need.

Advice:

Count calories and include foods in your diet that are high in protein as well as other essential vitamins and minerals:

  • lean meats, dairy and seafood containing iron, calcium, niacin and thiamin,
  • protein-rich lentils that are a good source of fiber.

Try to eat some protein at every meal. Stock up on lean dairy products, chicken, fish, lean ground turkey, lentils and green leafy vegetables. Use healthy cooking techniques that cut fat and calories.
