Tips for Estimating the Calories You Eat

Here are some more tips to help you control your calorie intake.

Basically, your entire meal should fit on a small 9-inch plate without creating any skyscraper piles. If you stick to that guideline, you’ll be eating one portion of each thing.

You can use the following to estimate some of your calories:

– one baked potato is 300 calories
– one portion of fruit is 100 calories
– one slice of bread or one tortilla is 100 calories
– one portion of vegetables is 50 calories
– one pat of butter is 50 calories
– one slice of cheese is 50 calories

Beware of Liquid Calories: Sodas, sweetened juice, frappes and more can contain hundreds of calories, while unsweetened tea, coffee or water don’t. As a general rule, one bottle of beer, one glass of wine, one can of soda or one energy drink is about 150 calories. One medium latte or smoothie has about 300 calories.
