It’s true that a little “midnight snack” doesn&#8217;t hurt, but there are some foods that you should never eat late at night.<br />

You may already know that a protein drink is good &#8220;snack&#8221; before retiring at night. And a glass of wine or other alcoholic &#8220;nightcap&#8221; is not really a good idea because it will inhibit restorative functions and keep you from getting quality sleep.<br />

If you are planning on a late night meal or snack, here are 4 foods to avoid:<br />

<strong>1. Red Meat</strong><br />

<blockquote><p>A big, juicy steak may be delicious, but it’s hardly the best thing to eat right before bed. Red meat will kick your body’s natural processes into overtime and will make it incredibly difficult to get the type of deep sleep that you really need after a hard day at work.</p></blockquote>

<strong>2. Vegetables</strong></br></p>
<blockquote><p>Vegetables are inherently nutritious, so you may think that they’re the perfect thing to eat right before bed if you want to stay healthy. In reality, you’d be very wrong. Vegetables tend to have a large amount of fiber, which moves incredibly slowly through your digestive system. This is another late night snack that will only keep you awake longer than you need to be.</p></blockquote>

<strong>3. Processed Foods and Chips</strong></br></p>
<blockquote><p>One of the great things about snacks like chips is how convenient they are ­ you can just grab a bag, munch away and be done before you know it. The issue is that processed foods have high doses of monosodium glutamate, which will almost certainly lead to sleep-­related issues that you likely want to avoid.</p></blockquote>

Everybody likes pumpkin, and pasta sauce made with pumpkin is really satisfying! Pumpkin is good to add to lots of different sauces, especially light cheese sauces and tomato sauces. The pumpkin acts as a thickener, adding a rich creamy texture.<br />
</br><br />
<em><strong>Tip:</strong> Add a little nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice to bring out the pumpkin flavor even more.</em><br />
</br><br />
Here&#8217;s the recipe for the basic Pumpkin-only Sauce that is perfect in its own right and contains only 80 calories with 1g fat:<br />
</br><br />
Start with a small bowl and combine these ingredients to make a pumpkin mixture:</p>
<blockquote><p>1/4 cup canned pure pumpkin,</p>
<p>1/4 cup light plain soymilk,</p>
<p>1/2 tsp. garlic powder,</p>
<p>1/8 tsp. salt,</p>
<p>a dash of black pepper.</p>
</blockquote>
<p></br><br />
After mixing the initial <strong>Perfect Pumpkin Sauce</strong> ingredients well, grab a small sauce pan and over medium-high heat, combine:</p>
<blockquote><p>1/4 cup fat-free chicken broth,</p>
<p>1/4 cup finely chopped onions,</p>
<p>1/2 tsp. chopped garlic,</p>
<p>half a wedge of light creamy Swiss cheese.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Then:</strong><em><br />
</br></p>
<blockquote><p>Cook until broth has evaporated, 2 &#8211; 4 minutes.<br />
</br><br />
Reduce heat to medium, and cook until onion and garlic begin to brown, about 1 minute.<br />
</br><br />
Add pumpkin mixture, and stir until thoroughly blended and hot.</p></blockquote>

<p><strong>Quinoa</strong> is one of the few plant-based sources of complete protein and lots more &#8212; and it tastes good, too! It&#8217;s native to Bolivia, comes in three different varieties (white, red and black) and is related to spinach and beets. As a gluten-free grain, it has become quite popular in recent years with its mild flavor and light crunch. It has become a nutrient-rich substitute for pasta, rice, couscous and cereals. Also available as gluten-free flour for baking.</p>
<p>Below are the 3 delicious and healthy quinoa recipes that you should try. My favorite is the Mexican Quinoa!<br />

<h3><em><strong>Shrimp Farfalle</strong></em></h3>

<blockquote><p>1 box farfalle pasta<br />
1 tbsp butter<br />
1 tbsp olive oil<br />
1 shallot, finely diced<br />
2 cloves of minced garlic<br />
1 bag of peeled uncooked shrimp<br />
1/3 cup white wine<br />
salt and pepper<br />
chili flakes to taste<br />
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved<br />
2 cups baby kale or spinach.<br />
fresh parmesan for grating on top</p></blockquote>

<strong>Instructions:</strong></p>
<ol id="zlrecipe-instructions-list" class="instructions">
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-0" class="instruction">Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-1" class="instruction">In a large frying or saucepan, heat your butter and olive oil over medium high (The olive oil prevents the butter from burning.)</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-2" class="instruction">Add shallots and garlic and sautee for two minutes.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-3" class="instruction">Add peeled shrimp.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-4" class="instruction">Season with salt, pepper and chili flakes to taste.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-5" class="instruction">Add white wine and bring to a simmer.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-6" class="instruction">Add tomatoes and kale.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-7" class="instruction">Cover and cook until kale wilts and tomatoes are heated through; about 3-5 minutes.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-8" class="instruction">Pour over cooked pasta and stir to combine.</li>
<li id="zlrecipe-instruction-9" class="instruction">Grate fresh parmesan over top.</li>
