<p><em><strong>Fruit smoothies</strong></em> are addictive! Once you&#8217;ve decided which kind of fruit smoothie you want to make, here are some useful preparation tips. To start with, it&#8217;s worthwhile investing in a <em>high-speed</em>  blender to minimize any fruit lumps and chunks of ice cubes!</p>
<p>If you can think of more useful &#8220;smoothie&#8221; tips to add to the list, below, please share in the comments.<br>
<br><br></p>
</br></br>
<blockquote>
<ul>
<li>A basic smoothie includes fruit, liquid or yogurt and ice. All you need to do is dump all the ingredients in your blender and blend on high until it&#8217;s smooth.</li>
<li>If you have time, freeze your fruit before making your smoothies. Otherwise, maybe add an extra ice cube or two.</li>
<li>You can use nut milk, soy milk or rice milk instead of cow&#8217;s milk.</li>
<li>Most of these smoothies call for a little bit of honey (about a tablespoon), but you can also use maple syrup, or plain sugar if you prefer.</li>
<li>Or, you can skip the sweetener altogether and save about 60 calories per smoothie.</li>
<li>Stevia and&nbsp;<a href="http://nutrition.about.com/od/calories/p/splenda.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sucralose</a>&nbsp;also work fine as honey substitutes, but I find I need to use less than a tablespoon per smoothie.</li>
<li>Don&#8217;t be afraid to experiment. Sample your smoothie before you pour it into your glass &#8212; add a little more of whatever you think it needs.</li>

While it doesn’t really take long to make PB&amp;J, when your time is really crunched in the morning, it can help speed things up a little bit. <p>The end result: A big pile of sandwiches!</p>
<p><em><strong>To freeze:&nbsp;</strong></em>Cut and put in baggies (if desired) and store in airtight freezer ziptop bags in the freezer for 4-6 weeks.</p>
<p><em><strong>To thaw:</strong></em>&nbsp;Stick frozen sandwiches in sack lunches in the morning and they will be thawed by lunch time. Or, you can be weird like me and eat them straight from the freezer.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can also warm them in the oven or microwave if you like your sandwiches warmed.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p>So often people assume that when you reduce carbohydrate in your diet it&#8217;s important to add a lot of protein. This is absolutely not true. It&#8217;s important to get adequate protein, of course, and if you&#8217;ve been getting some of your protein from high-carb foods such as grains you&#8217;ll have to shift your focus to other protein sources, but you don&#8217;t have to load your diet up with protein.<br />
</br><br />
Especially as people approach midlife and their older years, it&#8217;s not unusual to find that adding more protein helps people to feel better.</p></blockquote>

<h4>Tip 2. How much carb for you?</h4>
<p></br></p>
<blockquote><p>Like protein, it&#8217;s important to figure out how much carbohydrate your body functions best with. People&#8217;s bodies vary widely in their tolerance to carbohydrate. Some can get the majority of their calories from glucose sources (starches such as grains and potatoes are mostly glucose), whereas others who are not glucose-tolerant may have to eliminate these foods entirely to function at their best. Most people are somewhere in between.<br />
</br><br />
Atkins calls this &#8220;metabolic resistance&#8221;; some call it &#8220;carbohydrate sensitivity&#8221; or other names. It may have to do with how much damage there is to beta cells in the pancreas. At this point, scientists have not zeroed in on how to figure this out, so we need to do it for ourselves.</p></blockquote>
