It’s hard enough to cope with converting grams and kilograms to ounces and pounds, especially when some countries use a different definition of “pound” … but this is do-able when you’re only dealing with measuring weight.

For example:
    1 ounce = approximately 28 grams.

Converting from weight to volume, or visa-versa, is much more of a challenge. Measuring recipe ingredients by weight (e.g., grams) will typically be much more accurate than measuring by volume (e.g., cups, tablespoons, quarts or liters). This is especially true in baking —how much flour you can fit in a measuring cup depends on how much you pack it in!

Here are some solid, dry and liquid examples that may help in the kitchen:

Butter

Cups

Grams

1/4 cup of Butter

57 grams

1/3 cup of Butter

76 grams

1/2 cup of Butter

113 grams

1 cup of Butter

227 grams
